PHOTAUMATE

Free IPTC reader

Drop a photo: the reader shows its IPTC, XMP and EXIF metadata, checks what an agency expects and shows what the photo gives away about you. It all happens in your browser.

What the reader shows

Your photo stays with you

The reading happens in the page, with code that runs in your browser: the photo is not uploaded anywhere. The page only tells the site that a file was read (no name, no content), so that we know whether the tool is useful.

Filling these fields on a whole shoot

This reader shows what a photo contains. To fill it in on hundreds of photos at once, PHOTAUMATE writes captions from shortcuts and records the IPTC and XMP fields in your JPEGs, or in an .xmp file next to a RAW.

Frequently asked questions

Which files can I read?

JPEGs, and .xmp files. For a RAW file, read the .xmp file that goes with it: that is where software writes a RAW’s metadata.

Is my photo sent to a server?

No. The file is read by your browser, on your computer. Only an anonymous “the tool was used” signal is sent, without the file’s name or content.

Why are my IPTC fields empty?

Many cameras write no IPTC field: the caption, credit and keywords are filled in after the shot, in software. Social networks and many websites also strip them when a photo is published.

My photo holds a GPS position: what should I do?

If you publish the photo, remove that information first: anyone who gets the file can read where it was taken. Set the camera or phone not to record it, or delete it in your software.
