IPTC and XMP: press photo metadata
A photo sent without a caption or a credit gets lost. IPTC and XMP are the fields agencies and image databases read to file it.
For one photo or a hundred
The IPTC panel of the grid edits the fields of all the selected photos at once; the preview’s panel handles the photo you are looking at. A window gives every field in groups (content, rights, event and location, status, contact) and, read-only, the camera’s data.
Written into the file
When you send a JPEG, its title, caption, keywords, credit, copyright, location and date are written into the file as IPTC and XMP, without recompressing the picture and without touching the EXIF. For a RAW, TIFF or PNG, which cannot take that data, PHOTAUMATE writes a .xmp file next to it, readable by other software.
Templates instead of copy and paste
Events fill the caption, headline, reference, city and keywords of every photo from a few fields, with each photo’s own date. When you import a card, the same template applies during the copy.
Not sure what a field is for? The IPTC glossary explains them one by one.
